What do we do?

The Mendham First Aid Squad (MFAS) provides basic life support, emergency pre-hospital care to residents and visitors of Mendham Borough, and through mutual aid agreements, with residents of Mendham Township, Chester Borough, and Randolph Township.

When somebody calls 911 for a medical emergency within Mendham Borough, we are the ones who respond. We provide basic life support (BLS) services and provide emergency ambulance transportation to closest, most appropriate medical facility. If the illness or injury calls for more advanced treatment, we call for MICU Paramedic support.

Your call to 911 goes to the Morris County Communications Center, who dispatches the MFAS in the case of a medical emergency. The MFAS members meet at the First Aid Squad headquarters, form a crew, and drive the ambulance to the scene. Depending on the nature and location of the call, other MFAS members may go directly to the scene in order to provide the earliest possible care.

In addition to BLS pre-hospital care and emergency transport, the squad supports a wide range of local community organizations and events, including but not limited to:
  • Rehab support for training exercises by our own fire department;
  • Standby support at local football games and a number of local 5K races including the Harvest Hustle, Relay for Life and similar events; and
  • Assisting local scout troops in attaining merit badges with first aid awareness and training programs.

Whenever and wherever our residents need help, our volunteers put compassion and care first. If you’ve ever considered taking a more active role in enhancing the quality of life in Mendham Borough, we urge you to consider supporting the Mendham First Aid Squad through your financial donations or time as a volunteer.

Originally formed as the Mendham First Aid Rescue Squad in 1940, the squad has a rich history to draw upon, although we currently operate as an independent community organization. We invite you to learn more about us through our MFAS FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions), as well as our Membership FAQ.
